Premium Tutorial on Impedance Matching

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Come join us in the Besser Web Classroom for a two hour tutorial and Q&A session on Impedance Matching. This February 9th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Pacific Time, join instructor Bob Froelich online via web conference and have your questions on this important subject answered.

The need for impedance matching is rooted in basic AC circuit analysis principles. In basic terms, maximum power transfer occurs when the current and voltage are in phase. This workshop examines the ins and outs of delivering the most power possible to an RF load. Q factor and its effect on matching network bandwith are also described.

Upon completing the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the basis of impedance matching and its importance in energy transfer.
  • Understand complex impedances
  • Match unequal terminations
  • Optimize matching networks for wider bandwidth

Outline:

Impedance Matching Fundamentals
• Electrical energy transfer. • AC voltage and current in resistors, inductors and capacitors. • Complex numbers and complex arithmetic. • Impedance and admittance. • Conjugate match. • Q Factor. • Impedance matching with simple parasitics. • Impdedance matching between unequal terminations. • Improving bandwidth.

A recording of the course will be available for one week for those who are unable to attend the live event, and questions will be answered both during the session and via email after the session has ended.

Web Classroom: EMC/Shielding/Grounding Techniques for Chip & PCB Layout

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

This seminar discusses techniques for identifying the sources of unwanted coupling and radiation, and systematic approaches for their minimization. Instructor Allen Podell shares his intuition on shielding and layout strategies – an approach that will help you with your design and production challenges. Multiple simulation examples are demonstrated throughout the presentation.

Learn from your desk: live, interactive sessions (ask as many questions as you like) – no travel – just 90 minutes each day!

Learning Objectives:
Upon completing the course, the participant will be able to:

• Define electromagnetic compatibility.
• Identify sources of coupling and radiation.
• Discuss and simulate the effectiveness of various shielding strategies.
