Top-Selling DSP Author Coming to San Diego

Rick Lyon's book "Understanding DSP" consistently ranks among the top bestsellers for DSP technical books at Amazon.com. At the end of February, this top-selling author will be presenting his three day course, DSP Made Simple for Engineers in San Diego. In his course, Rick uses the same practical approach that has made the book a bestseller. Not only will you have a chance to learn this subject directly from the author, but you will also receive a free copy of the book!

In addition to teaching courses, Rick has been busy publishing articles on the subject of DSP. His most recent articles include: "Teachware: Online Signal Processing Books", IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, Best of the Web column, Vol. 24, No. 1, January 2007; "Novel Differentiator Handles Discrete Time-Domain Signals", Electronic Design magazine, Sept. 14, 2006; and "Reducing CIC Filter Complexity", IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, DSP Tips & Tricks column, Vol. 23, No. 4, July 2006. You may need a subscription to the relevant magazines in order to gain access to the articles listed here.

RF Transceivers Course Now in San Diego and Boston

Our comprehensive course on RF Transceiver Architecture, Design and Evaluation is now offered in both San Diego at the end of February as well as Boston in May. This program has become very popular recently thanks to the rise in integration in wireless products. The course allows you to understand the issues that designers must face when implementing a certain protocol in the wireless portion of their systems. Questions such as "how do you choose an IF frequency?" and "what are the problems with using a ZIF receiver?" are addressed in detail as part of the seminar. Students are encouraged to bring their laptops to the course and work on example problems using a simulator and spreadsheets. The latest version of the course also covers system-level RF testing and troubleshooting.

Mentoring Tip: Best Time to Ask for a Raise

From time to time, we would like to offer short tips from some of our Associates on how to make the most of your wireless career. When it comes to asking for a raise, consider this simple advice from instructor Ed Niehenke: don't bother your boss during the middle of a busy workday. Instead, try to broach the subject at a time when you are working late. That way, one of your best merits is already on display — namely the fact that you are a hard worker! Also, your boss is less likely to be distracted by workday interruptions like phone calls and meetings. For more practical tips on negotiating a raise, have a look at these articles from Career Know-how and Yahoo! Hot Jobs.
