Next Free Webcast: Balanced/Unbalanced Transformers (Baluns)

The 2008 Webinar series from Microwave Journal and Besser Associates continues this month with a tutorial on Baluns. Instructor Allen Podell will present the upcoming FREE webcast on January 15 at 11AM Eastern Time. This webcast covers the design and limitations of passive baluns. We begin with the usual 1:1 and 4:1 impedance baluns, then explain their frequency limitations. This leads to techniques for obtaining better balance and unusual impedance transformations over a broad band. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see the presentation and ask questions in the Q&A session that follows. Visit the Microwave Journal Resources page for more information about the upcoming webcast, and to sign up. You can also view the recorded sessions of previous webcasts in the series.

Next Webinar: RF Fundamentals

Our next webinar course, RF Fundamentals, will be presented January 28-February 1, 2008 by Les Besser. This course provides circuit-level designers with the essential concepts needed to work effectively with high frequency electronics. Participants gain analytical, graphical, and computer-aided techniques to analyze and optimize RF circuits in practical situations. The course addresses linear active circuit design, focusing on stability, bandwidth, and noise considerations. The webinars are offered as five, 90-minute live web-conference sessions where you can ask questions and view CAD examples from the instructor's computer. Just log-in from your computer with a high speed internet connection and speakers or headphones. The amount of material covered is roughly equivalent to a one-day classroom course.

New Book on Signal Processing

Besser Associates instructor Dr. Joseph Boccuzzi has written a new book, Signal Processing for Wireless Communications. From the publisher's description, the book "...offers communications engineers an application-focused guide to the essential concepts and techniques of wireless signal processing. This comprehensive reference examines the role that key algorithms and standard migration paths play in the design and day-to-day operations of today's state-of-the-art wireless networks." Dr. Boccuzzi has updated his wireless digital communications course to reflect material in the new book. The updated course shares the same title as the book and will be offered April 8-11 in San Jose, CA. Sign up for the course and you will receive a FREE copy of the book!

Dr. Boccuzzi is a Principal Scientist designing wireless communication systems in the wireless business unit of Broadcom Corporation. His responsibilities cover the mobile station (MS, UE) and base station (BTS, NodeB) with emphasis on EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA/HSUPA & their evolution, as well as LTE (i.e. Turbo 3G) radio access technologies. He worked on the WCDMA evolution path such as supporting VoIP, MBMS, MIMO, Femto Cells, etc.
