The 2008 Webinar series from Microwave Journal and Besser Associates continues this month with a tutorial on Impedance Matching. Instructor Les Besser will present the upcoming FREE webcast on February 19 at 11AM Eastern Time. Impedance matching is vitally important to maximize the efficiency of RF and Microwave systems. The goal is to transfer the maximum available signal power from the output of each system block to the input of the following block. In this short Webinar, you will see how impedance matching is achieved by an analytical and an alternative graphical (Smith Chart) technique, using lumped (L-C) components. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see the presentation and ask questions in the Q&A session that follows. Visit the Microwave Journal Resources page for more information about the upcoming webcast, and to sign up. You can also view the recorded sessions of previous webcasts in the series.
Our next webinar course, EMC Benchtop Fundamentals, will be presented March 24-28 , 2008 by Kenneth Wyatt. Very often, simple EMC bench-top pre-compliance measurements and troubleshooting techniques can identify issues early when the cost of implementation is substantially lower and design improvements may be made with less impact on schedules. This seminar covers the basics of EMC design, simple bench top measurement methods and includes a number of simple techniques and tools. The webinars are offered as five, 90-minute live web-conference sessions where you can ask questions and view CAD examples from the instructor's computer. Just log-in from your computer with a high speed internet connection and speakers or headphones. The amount of material covered is roughly equivalent to a one-day classroom course.
Kenneth Wyatt, Sr. EMC Engineer, Agilent Technologies, holds degrees in biology and electronic engineering and has worked as an product development engineer for 10 years at various aerospace firms on projects ranging from DC-DC power converters to RF and microwave systems for shipboard and space systems. For over 20 years, he has worked as an EMC engineer for Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies in Colorado Springs. A prolific author and presenter, he has written or presented topics including RF amplifier design, RF network analysis software, EMC design of products and use of harmonic comb generators for predicting shielding effectiveness. He has been published in magazines such as, RF Design, EMC Design & Test, Electronic Design, Microwave Journal, HP Journal and several others.
Besser Associates instructor Rick Lyons has been awarded the "2007 IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Best Column Award" by the IEEE for his work on the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. The award ceremony will be held next March at the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2008) in Las Vegas.
In addition to teaching his course DSP Made Simple for Engineers, Rick has written numerous articles on DSP topics, and authored Amazon.com's top selling DSP book "Understanding Digital Signal Processing, 2/E" (Prentice Hall, 2004). Lyons is the primary contributor to, and Editor of, the book "Streamlining Digital Signal Processing: A Tricks of the Trade Guidebook" (IEEE Press, 2007). He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Signal Processing magazine, where he created and edits the "DSP Tips & Tricks" column; and a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society.
