The 2008 Webinar series from Microwave Journal and Besser Associates continues with RFID Technologies - UHF Tags by instructor Allen Hollister. The webcast will run August 19th at 8AM Pacific Time. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is becoming one of the revolutionary technologies of our time promising to change the way we shop, and manage product flow through the supply chain. This webinar will provide a general overview of RFID technologies with an emphasis on UHF passive tags. Visit the Microwave Journal Resources page to view the recorded sessions of previous webcasts in the series.
Two offerings are coming soon to the Besser Web Classroom. These are live, instructor led courses that are taught using web conferencing instead of a traditional classroom. The sessions last 90 minutes, so you can still keep up with your everyday work and meetings, and run everyday for five days. Classes typically have 10-20 students, you can ask questions any time, and you will receive a PDF copy of the course manual so that you can print it out and take notes as the course progresses. Corporate exclusive courses are available for a variety of subjects and are a great way to train groups that are spread out across the continent or around the world.
For our next public course in the web classroom, Les Besser will be presenting his RF Fundamentals course October 6-10. EMC/Shielding/Grounding Techniques for Chip & PCB Layout, will be presented October 13-17, 2008 by Allen Podell. (We recently updated the title to better match the content of the course.) Just log-in to the class from your computer each day with a high speed internet connection and speakers or headphones - no travel required! Sign up today!

This three-day course provides a detailed review of the principles involved and techniques applied in WiMAX broadband wireless access (BWA) systems, including point-to-multipoint (PMP) and mesh structured “last-mile” links. Key features of WiMAX supported standards (IEEE 802.16-2004, ETSI HIPERMAN, and IEEE 802.16e Mobility Amendment) are presented. The typical types of packet switched data conveyed by such systems are studied. The digital modulation techniques applied are analyzed and error detection/correction methods examined. The line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) wireless fading paths are reviewed in detail. Multiple access and NLOS techniques employed in PMP systems are analyzed and the features and performance of WiMAX certified systems are reviewed.

This three-day course introduces and analyzes Bluetooth wireless networking, based on Bluetooth specification 2.1 + EDR (enhanced data rate). Participants begin by studying Bluetooth signal propagation characteristics, modulation, packet structure, data and audio processing, and error control. The role of the Bluetooth link manager in establishing a connection and implementing security and encryption measures are then discussed. Various higher layers in the Bluetooth protocol stack are examined such as packet segmentation and reassembly, service discovery, the host controller interface, and the implementation of application profiles. The Bluetooth qualification program is discussed. Finally, the ability of Bluetooth to coexist with other wireless networks in the 2.4 GHz band is analyzed.
Space is still available in the following August courses - courses start soon so register today!
