The webcast will run March 24th at 8AM Pacific Time. Visit the Microwave Journal Resources page to view the recorded sessions of previous webcasts in the series.

Radar/Military Sensing Courses Coming to Greenbelt, MD

Introduction to Microwave Radar and Electronic Warfare Systems

This two day course will explain the fundamental engineering technology and the operating characteristics of modern microwave radar and electronic warfare systems used by the world's military. It will provide the attendees with a firm grounding in the language of system performance, and the microwave equipment that makes this performance possible. All explanations convey a conceptual understanding, using simple physical descriptions without detailed mathematics.

Introduction to Military Electro-Optical Systems

New Web Classroom Course: Wideband/HF Amplifier Design Techniques

Wideband amplifiers typically have bandwidths of DC to multi-GHz while maintaining a good step response (MFED). This course uses simplified models to develop the theory needed to understand and develop such circuits. The student will learn not only the theory and practice of wideband amplifier design, but will also learn techniques that provide a "gut level feel" for designing almost any analog circuit. Using these techniques, the student will learn how to derive equivalent circuits, some containing negative elements that describe for example, why oscillations occur. Once the basic theory is developed, a variety of additional simulation tools are brought in to complete the last 10% of the design and provide verification of the efficacy of the simplified algebraic models.

This course is taught on-line using our Web classroom format. The course consists of ten 90 minute web-conference sessions spread out Monday - Friday over a two week period. The instructor's audio and presentation are delivered over the computer screen and speakers. Students can ask questions at any time via the chat window - or between sessions via email. The class times are 9:00am to 10:30am Pacific Time. Course notes are provided electronically in pdf format. A copy of the book, ‘Wideband Amplifier Design’ by Allen Hollister is included and will be mailed to students.
